I have tried a few times to convert Babel and Traffic using AutoGK. These films have forced subtitles and not having them makes it very difficult to follow the movies, but when I try converting them I either get ALL the English subtitles or none of them.
I rip the movies from DVD and make sure I take the subtitle tracks. What is the correct way to set up AutoGK to make sure I get the appropriate subtitles?
Do I select the subtitle track then check off "Use only forced subtitles" in the advanced settings or is there another way to do it?
Thank.

Hi!
I'd suggest that the first thing you might want to do is load the problematic DVDs (from your hard drive rips) into DVDSubEdit and determine whether the subtitles you desire are, in fact "forced subtitles" (that are selected for appearance from within the primary subtitle track), or if there is a separate subttile track for them...

I checked it with DVDsubedit and they are all there... Even the non-English subtitles are fine.
I have previewed in AutoGK all the English subtitle tracks both with "Forced subs" checked and un-checked and they never show up. No subtitles show up no matter what I do.
I really don't know what's wrong.

You may have to pull them manually. I use the old-fashioned SubRip to get the correct ones off the disk.

If you load "Traffic" into DVDSubedit and select the subtitle/subpic track "0x21", you'll see that it contains English subtitles for ONLY the non-English spoken lines (Whereas "0x27" contains a full set of English subtitles for the entire movie). This DVD does not contain "forced subs" (that are selected for appearance from within the primary subtitle track).
You'll find a similar structure for "Babel"...

I understood you, but that doesn't really help me because even when I select that track in AutoGK and un-check used only forced subs, no subtitles show up in the preview.
As for DVDdubedit, I outputted a txt file, but AutoGK says there is an error on line 2. When I open the txt file, the subtitles are incomplete... only some letters show up... The ones the program asked me to type in.

When I open the txt file, the subtitles are incomplete... only some letters show up... The ones the program asked me to type in. Are we talking about the same program? DVDSubEdit has no function asking/requiring you to type any text. You can, however, use the OCR function in SubEdit to automatically (and quickly) create an .SRT subtitle file...

Sorry, I was talking about Subrip... I've been trying so many programs I am getting them mixed up.

So I used DVDsubedit and everything seemed to work fine, but when I use AutoGK to burn the titles in they gradually go out of sync. When the movie starts the subtitles are right on, but as the movie progresses the subtitles begin to appear before the spoken words.
I have had audio issues in the past and know that audio gradually going out of sync is a frame rate issue, but is that what he problem is here? How do I adjust the frame rate of the subtitles?
Or is it another problem all together?

So I used DVDsubedit and everything seemed to work fineI'm glad to hear that my suggestion worked for you ;>}
but when I use AutoGK to burn the titles in they gradually go out of syncI'm sorry to hear that ;>{ For the .SRT file (or any textual format subtitle file), you can use a program such as Subtitle Workshop to, with essentially one keystroke, change the overall rate if the subtitles from, for example 24 fps to 23.976 fps or from 30 fps to 29.970 fps - or vice-versa...

Yes, DVDsubedit worked good, thanks.
And I found Subtitle Workshop and after a little trial and error I got the subs to match up all the way through. My only issue is not knowing the frame rate of the subs that I import to Workshop. Is there a way to tell or do I just need to use trial and error until I find it?
Does DVDsubedit ALWAYS export at a certain frame rate?
