What's a good way to approach a series?

I've got quite a few series on DVD that I would like to rip to Mp4 but I don't quite know how to approach the project.

I'm OK with converting entire movies but what should I do about a DVD that contains a series of programs?

Would I copy it all as one big MP4 file or convert each episode individually?

or is there another way?

Rip the DVD with RipIt4Me or DVDFab HD Decrypter as full file backup, create a single file for each episode using DVD Shrink, in StaxRip beta create a template, load the files into StaxRip in file batch mode. Afaik StaxRip is the only AviSynth based encoder doing batch processing (not to be confused with job processing).

Sounds complex and some new techniques I've never heard before but I will give it a go.

I didn't want to be unfriendly and unfortunately I can't explain episodic handling well, sorry. #9 was meant for your better chance of getting a qualified reply to an appropriately titled question, #12 caused flamewars many times in the past and it could be asked in a neutral way. :)

How skittle does it:

Create a folder for each episode. Set DVDDecrypter to "split by cell id", rip everything in file mode. Move only the vob cells that contain the episodes to their folders. Use stax rip to batch process all of the folders.

Its easier than ripping the episodes individually.

If it's a TV series, nearly all of them can be handled by DVD Decrypter. I rip in IFO mode (One step per episode) and encode each one separately.

Unfortunately I've had to remove DVDDecrypter from my Vista box because it does not play nicely. Every time I tried to close the application down I had to click on loads of warning boxes.

At the moment I have

DVD FAB decrypter
DVD Shrink
Stax Rip 1.0.0.3

I know that there is a more upto date version of stax rip but I can't get my head round how to use it and the earlier version seems more simple to use and understand.

Instead of DVD Decrypter I'll try and use DVD Shrink. But some how I think this will take ages. :-(
