My computer has a opteron 170 in it. dual core 2.0 and a radeon 4850.

It plays blu ray movies great.
However, if I try to encode anything in at 1080p with x264 it plays at about half the normal speed. It also seems to use only 1 of the cores for playback.

So how exactly am I supposed to encode to use the hardware acceleration on the ATI card.

Thanks

You have to encode to Level 4.1 specs, meaning --level 4.1 and --ref 4 or less (for 1080p).

You also have to use a player that will utilize the hardware acceleration of your video card, otherwise I don't think you'll have much luck with 1080p material on a 2.0 GHz CPU.

Thanks, Ive been fooling with it a bit more and it appears if I use the bluray profile for encoding I can play it back in powerDVD. But not in WMP11. Which goes along with what you two have said. That brings me to the next question... Is there a way to enable the acceleration in WMP11?
