View Full Version : Any way to get AQ using HCEnc in current version (1.27.3)?

Or is a manual encode necessary? And would a valid method be to do a prepare and then make the requesite HC INI files and encode manually and transfer the results into D2VAVS and Rebuild?

Second question... Can someone explain please why HCEnc sometimes adjusts average bitrate; often by large amounts (I have read this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1003006#post1003006)by the way)? Today I had a segment which started off OK, then dipped to -1%, then -3% and finally -8%! I re-encoded manually, upping the desired bitrate to compensate but the adjustment this time was only 1% or so (I did add AQ1 to the manual encode, so maybe that changed the parameters sufficiently to fix the quant or max BR or buffer). It's just I have never had such a large adjustment before and this caused undersizing by about 30Mb.

Thirdly, a request for jdobbs. I really like looking at HCEnc's log files as they are quite informative. Can we have an option to include the log files for each segment's encode in D2VAVS please (or just one log file showing all the segments)? For one, this would be an easy way to determine which segments suffered from the bitrate adjustment mentioned above. :thanks: in advance :)

I place HC.ini in C:\Program Files\DVD-RB PRO\Encoders\HC Encoder and in ini file I put *AQ 2 value. I think this should work.

@Rogi

The setting in HC.INI file wouldn't be used, the INI file is created with each individual encode to match settings and information known about the segment (in the Professional Edition)

@blutach
You could probably set up a command line encoder .BAT script to do what you want. But that's the only way I can think of offhand. I've already added AQ to v1.28. I'll see if I can get that released this weekend. I've been spending time researching and trying different things for BD Rebuilder development and haven't put the effort that I should have in getting this update out.

@jdobbs

Looking forward to 1.28 :) Any chance of my request being implemented in this version?

And in the absence of a BAT file, is manual encoding a reasonable way to go?

I don't really see a way since the HC.INI is created and removed on-the-fly as the segments are encoded.

@blutach:
A simple AutoIt "wrapper" similar to HCEnc^n or QuEnc^n could do the job.
In regard to the separate log file for each segment I could do this as well.

PM me if you have interest in such a "wrapper".

??? It's going to be available within DVD-RB in a couple of days..

Thank you for clarification.

Well, it was just an offer to blutach...
Even if the new version of DVD-RB will be available in a few days it seems to me
that blutach doesn´t want to wait...
And in the absence of a BAT file, is manual encoding a reasonable way to go?

Writing this in AutoIt would take something like 15 min....so I was just willing to help...

Thanks for the offers but I can certainly wait :)

My main interest is in being able to use AQ but also getting a logfile of each encode (which is also an easy parameter to add) as I am a nut in examining the stats.

And if anyone has any better explanation as to why that adjusting bitrate thing can be so severe sometimes (and how to stop the encoder from doing this), I'd be really grateful.

I would be more than interested in the wrapper since there's no AQ-supporting RB-Opt version yet ;)

@Boulder:
You´re welcome ! I´m just running another test DVD together with RB Opt.
Give it a try and let me know if you see room for enhancements :cool:
