It should be working with all possible audio combinations now because we´re walking through the indexfile of the avi and seek for the right keyframe.

And don´t forget: Feedback is very welcome!

Our goal is that AviSplitCalc will be integrated in the next release into gnot.

Till weekend the command line support will be perfected ... so check out for updates!

I for one always use Nandub for this, works really great. Plus you don't have to manually seek to the correct frame, Nandub does that for you...

Am I missing something?

Yes, for me it has worked really well, but you have to use if on a previously muxed file, you can't select the video-only, select mp3-audio (or ac3) and assume it works...

I always use "Jump to last key in 699MB", step back some keyframes until I find a suitable place to cut, and that's it. I have never had an oversized file yet, and mostly I hit about 695MB. Of course depending on how far back I have to go. I don't like to cut in the middle of a dialog for example...

BUT, if anyone would work out a way to predict the size on an unmuxed avi + sound-file (even just ac3 would be great, if vbr-mp3 is too much) I would be really impressed... Taking into account the muxing-overhead as well.

I like this calculator for the following reason: as you may have noticed, the control-shift-j trick in nandub is a nandub internal thing.. there's no way to access this functionality from outside of nandub. Hence... gknot can't split up the AVI after encoding and you have to do it manually (unless you simulate keypresses and as you may know dvd2svcd moved away from this as it was very problematic.. so a solution with cli support is needed). Now.. gknot can launch this calculator from the command line, find out the right frame to cut, then launch nandub with the appropriate settings to split up your main movie.. one more step in the whole encoding chain being done automatically and that's really not a bad thing, is it?

Yes, that is a very excellent point, I did not consider that. For sure it could be very useful.

However, I personally know that I wouldn't use such a feature, because of the reason I stated in my earlier posts. I believe that the cutting of a movie into pieces is something that should be done manually so that, if possible, you can choose a logical place to have a short pause. Most rips have a fem MB extra space anyway, which gives you something to work with.

But I know that most people are not this anal about such a small detail, and would be glad to have it done automagically.

In the moment I try to expand the cli-support a bit ... so that you have more options.

Multiple Cut-Frame-Support is also in work ... and we will hopefully get this avs thing done, hehe ...
