I wish I knew the technical term for this, but I don't.

Im using linux, and any play that I use I will notice (generally in high motion) breaks between the top and bottom of the screen, almost as if one frame doesn't quite finish rendering before the next one starts. I doubt I could get a screen shot as when you stop it finishes the render.

Is there any way to prevent or stop this?

What do you know, I could get a screen shot of it. This is most noticable at high speed scenes in full screen. I'm using Mplayer

Ok, I found the problem. the exact term is "tearing" and it was caused by me enabling the "direct rendering" option in mplayer. Hope this helps someone in the future.
