.mod format

I've been working with just backingup my video collection since 97. My dad threw me a curve ball the other day wanting to know how to convert .mod to a useable dvd player format. Does anyone out there have any sudgestions? Your help would be appriciated.

I have a JVC 30gb hdd cam that uses .mod format, all i did was rename the .mod file's to .mpg, as gspot said it was a mpeg2 stream, and low and behold just about every program is happy with them.
