Was playing with BeSweet, and noticed an optioin in AZID1 screen for the output to be SURROUND. Does that convert the 5.1 audio in a DVD into a format my audio receive will be able to simulate back?

What about this prologic 2 thingie. I understand prologic takes a 2 channel (stereo) audio track and decodes it into a surround mode. Do I need to do anything special to "enable" this?

indeed... also note that DPLII is purely a decoding issue.. you can't encode to DPLII.. so if you create your DPL soundtrack with azid and you play it with a DPLII capable receiver you'll get DPLII.. same goes for any stereo or DPL source

Thanks guys.

So to get the best conversion from DVD, I'll use that surround option in Azid and convert the ac3 file to a wave. And use tmpgenc to encode both video and audio into VCD/SVCD.

(you'll have to excuse me, kinda thick here) I'm just repeating because I am not sure about what is (if any) lost when converting from WAV to MP2.

Make sure your MP2 is 'Stereo' and not 'Joint Stereo' as this may f.... the Surround info or lead to noise .

I prefer to use toolame for MP2 encoding ( muxing later with TMPEG or BB_MPEG ) as you can set it to 'stereo' , and you dont know what TMPEG will do here, depending on bitrate ( does anybody know what it really does here ? )...
