.MKV H264 HD File to Mpeg2 (for DVD)

Im looking for a convert a rather large (4 gig) file (720P quality) from H264 to mpeg2 (matroska currently) so that I can burn to DVD and play on my home television. I am by no means a computer noob but I lately havent been keeping up with the whole scene as much and havent found something yet that works for me. Ive tried using two programs so far (which both seem to integrate ffmpeg and mencoder), and neither have worked for me (Media Coder and WinMENC). When using media coder it fails to encode anything (but will play the file just fine) unless I set it to 2 pass mode, in which case it seems to be working (pass 1 it starts creating an mpeg file which increases in size) but then eventually the file is deleted and im left with a file of only about 10KB. Is there any setting Im missing here (ive tried messing with both a bunch), or do I need to get something else?

What is the H.264 file and where did you get it?

Its a full length film, about 4 gigs in size. Heres the info that mediacoder gives when I add the file into it:

Container: Matroska
Duration: 6987.4 secs
Video: (0): AVC
Resolution: 960 x 544
Frame rate: 23.98 FPS
Audio: (0): AAC/AAC+
Bitrate: 128KBS
Sample Rate: 48000 HZ
Channels: 6


Again, it does play fine...so Im confused as to what is wrong. What other info do you need?

When people don't answer the simple question "where did you get it" and then post info from GSPot or Mediacoder to show things they already would know if they had made the encoding...there's only one conclusion possible: Rule 6!
