VOB to MPG results in decreased time?

I am having a lot of difficulty with a VOB file from an "extras" scene from DVD the scene is 26m 18s

Here is what I usually do: DVD Decrypter (Audio Demux) and rip it and the video (not demuxed) , re-encode in Procoder and then to my authoring program (Encore) - never had an issue this way until now.

Here is what is happening; for some reason the resulting mpg is at 25m 56s (the ac3 is the correct 26.18) but it is all there nothing is missing from the video and it is clear it is just "short"

I have tried a lot of different methods (Mpeg-VCR which resulted in the same length) but I always end up with a short mpg.

I also tried to use DVD Decrypter in the "demux" setting for the video and the result is the same a shortened time video.

BTW I also tried DVD Fab which gave me two VOBs I then merged using VOB Merge and then ran through Procoder with the same result.

I know the original VOB that I rip is causing the problem, and would assume it is corrupt in some way but not sure what it is and how to fix.

I see three ways to fix this; fix the original VOB, shorten the AC3 length or increase the video file to match (not sure if those are possible)?

I am not sure, if it would help, but...

Do you know DGIndex? Try to index the vob in it and try to index the mpg file, upload both projects somewhere and ask politely for neuron2's help.

Just to update;

I tried a program called "FixVTS" (the VOB views fine) and ran the resulted "Fixed" vob through Procoder and I get just the first 2 minutes of the video encoded, even though upon input it gives a time of 27m.

I took the "Demuxed" video from DVD Decrypter and opened it in TMPGENC 4 and it claims it is 1 second long with "1" frame.

Does the vidoe stop, while audio continues for 22 seconds?

Usually such confusions are caused by various tools incorrectly reporting the durations of streams. For MPEG2, for example, the timestamps at the beginning and end are often compared. But timestamps can be discontinuous or otherwise wrong. So setarip_old's point is germane: how long do the audio and video streams actually play? You can also determine the number of frames using DGIndex and then use that together with the frame rate to calculate the actual, reliable time duration.

OK, I think I am going to start from scratch. The DGindex said the timestamp of the original VOB was 31.12, that was the VOB I pulled in Decrypter (w\no audio).

So I have ripped the clip again using DVD Fab (customize setting) , I now have two VOBs (1 & 2) (a 23.44 clip and 5.13 clip) for total of 28.51. I have watched both clips and they are perfectly in sync.

My next move is going to join the clips in VOBMERGE and see if the large VOB is still in sync. And then after that? I'm not sure.


EDITED: I have merged the two VOBS into one VOB using VOBMERGE and I am still perfectly in sync. I would usually run it through Procoder at this time but not sure what to do with it now.

Weird, when I played the merged VOB it is in sync but now it lasts a total of 31.15 instead of by my calculation 28.51 from two separate VOBs

You've now mentioned 5 different times for the same "extras scene".

You state that the merged .VOB is in synch.

I would usually run it through Procoder at this time but not sure what to do with it now.Run it through Procoder...
