Batch divx to mpg4

I was wondering if anyone can suggest a good free(if not free then whatever) divx to mpg4(for my sony pmp). I got a ton of movies I encoded to divx.

fix the thread title. it's not allowed to ask "what's best".
however divx is already mpeg4 you dont need to re-encode.

Hi!I got a ton of movies I encoded to divx.If, in fact, you determine that your DivX-compressed videos won't play on the desired system, it would likely be simpler and would definitely yield higher quality results, if you simply re-ripped your original DVDs and DIRECTLY converted them to the desired format...

Simpler to re-rip and encode a hundred or thousand DVDs individually than to queue up a thousand files for re-encoding silently? Even I choose time & convenience over absolute quality in that case.

If you're looking for a GUI program, I'd highly recommend Avidemux (http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/). I've had much success using it to encode videos for my iPod. If you're thinking command line, either mencoder or ffmpeg can achieve what you're looking for.

Few applications do batch processing well and few users have sufficient knowledge about batch processing (see replies in this thread :rolleyes: ), most can't even tell the difference between batch processing and job processing.

so true. however, miyagawafan, if you absolutely need to re-encode from your divx files, keep in mind you will loose quality.
i dont know your sony pmp specs, however, divx IS (even a subset of) mpeg4 ASP.
if it doesnt support divx then it doesnt support mpeg4 ASP.
if it supports mpeg4 AVC / h.264 only or it's just a matter of resolution, then you have to re-encode.
