hi there,

i have a notebook with core duo and intel onboard video, due to this powerdvd doesn't play my uk-import of Fearless HD-DVD. the movie has only chinese and french audio, so i need the english subs. i played with some mkv tools and other muxers, but i can't get the subs to integrate into something that i can watch. is there any other player to work on my notebook or what method to chose to get the subs work?

I'm confused on what your asking. Do you mean your laptop doesnt have enough dedicated graphics ram to play an HD-DVD? I think it needs at least 256mb's. Beyond that, what does that have to do with sub-titles? can you clarify?

All you have to do is mux the sub's into the mkv with the audio and video, using something like mkvmerge, are you saying the computer won't playback the video's properly cos it's too slow? or won't play them back because of a codec issue? or your media player won't play them????

is there any other player to work on my notebook or what method to chose to get the subs work?

There are ton's of media players out there, but all of them won't be able to counteract a lack of power!!!

the subtitles are in*.sup from HD-DVD. when i try to mux it into mkv, mkvmerge doesn't recognize them.

my notebook isn't too slow, because original remuxed 1080p24 vc1 + original dts/eac3 audio from HD-DVD play fine in mplayerc with haali splitter, ffdshow & sonic audio decoder.
(additionally i started to reencode to 720p h264, which needs less horespower to view)

but powerdvd complains my video card is crap, or so ;)
i can life without powerdvd and remuxing into mkv, but then my problem is, how to get the subtitles into the container. i guess, i need something to change the format of the HD-DVD subs to something that i can put into mkv, that's my problem, that i didn't found some tool (or guide) to fit my needs of converting the subs into something usefull for my needs.

@gigah72

I'm still confused - if you follow Dat720's instructions you should have absolutely no problem. Using mkvmerge is honestly the asbolutely easiest way to do this...you dont need to convert the sub-titles into anything, just include them while muxing the audio and video. What "usefull needs" are you referring to other than being able to see the subtitles on the screen while watching the movie?

You will need to convert the sup (Sub Pics) files to a text based subitle format like .srt

Look in the subtitle forum, there is guides for HD sub's, it's not too difficult, i have done it before with the Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift HDDVD, but couldn't advise you as i am going through the process of setting up a new PC and don't have the software on hand that i used, (YAY for core 2 duo's half the clock speed but still faster than my Pentium D)
