I am having trouble playing some DVD's on a fairly new Sony DVD recorder. On some disks the plyback pause and hangs up like I have a dirty or scratched disc, but I don't. I've cleaned the discs as well as run a lense cleaner in the machine, but to no advail. Does anyone have any thought that I might try?

Aye, get good discs. There's a reason it's mentioned in most manuals. Or, get a DVD cleaner on it.

These are store bought DVD's and I ran a disc cleaner on them.

But what brand store bought disc??? Even reputable brand names can be a poor quality. Example, Verbatims are considered some of the best of the best, but avoid those made in India...

Commercial DVDs (of movies)Try playing them on a standalone player and or another player/recorder you have on your system or another system.
From what you've described so far, it sounds like your SONY recorder may be at fault.
BTW - By "Sony recorder", do you mean a burner that's part of your PC setup, or do you mean a tabletop recorder hooked up to your TV?

I have tryed a diffrent player, and they play fine. The Sony is a table top Player/Recorder hooked to the TV.

If it's still under warranty, return it to the place of purchase in exchange for a new one...
