Locating temporary files

Sometimes when downloading photos, my connection hangs up in the middle. I may be downloading a compressed zip file, and 10 minutes into a 20 minute download it hangs. I know that they are initially being downloaded to a temporary file, and it does not create a permanent file until the download is complete. My question is: how can I locate that temporary file with the partial download?

If possible, use a download manager. Otherwise, in Windows XP they are often located under:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

But you have to use external file manager, not the Windows explorer.
