Hi are there any advantages in not cropping a bluray x264 movie other than lets say for example bluray compatibility i mean would a cropped movie
lose the black bars when you played it back or would they still show? basically by not cropping what would you gain displaywise?

By not cropping you gain nothing if you are using a PC for playback. If you are aiming for stand alone compatibility you could leave them. But if you are just going to view them on a PC with MPC or some player like that, then you will just be spending bitrate on encoding black bars when the player will add them upon playback in fullscreen mode anyway.

Black bars are EXTREMELY easy to compress. No movement , no texture.

Thanks Atak_Snajpera so is it safe to say there would be only a very small loss in quality from not cropping a movie while using x264
? :)
