and better quality. Especially on at high resolutions and low bitrates - 1080i at 4-5 mbit - quality is much better then with the old encoder. No quality flickering - when quality drops down on each I-frame, no quality "waves" when you have a ten seconds of garbage and then then ten seconds of good video during the same scene.

OK, make a simple test. Take slow motion HD video with many details, say, parkrun. And encode it by the new and the old CS at the same bitrate. Doesn't matter VBR or CBR. At any bitrate up to 12 MBit (or even more) you will see exactly what I told.

Well it's not better quality (like better ME, RDO, partition mode, Grain optimisation, AQ optimisation ...) but just certainely different ratio between IB or IP frame transition with no-scenecut frame. With high ratio for x264 you can make popup keyframe too. It's just a really simple RC tweak.

Now when there is x264 with excellent film grain retention and psy rdo developers of commercial H.264 codecs have a lot of work to do.

Yes x264 is by far better for that now. In fact now x264 is by far the best in all situation.

I can't find AVC in the encoder settings, only MPEG-2, DV and HuffYUV?

MuTeK

ECS AVCHD supported only MPEG-2 and DV.
ECS Mobile, Consumer and ProHD supported all video formats (MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Part 2, AVC/H.264, DV25).

How to join the ProHD beta... (http://www.elecard.com/news/news_arch.php?nid=172)

Yeah, that's what the features list says. But thought it was funny that the software is called AVC HD edition and that people in this thread are talking mainly about an encoder that isn't part of this software...

Anyway, looking into the beta thing right now, thx.
