I personally use http://mp3merger.cjb.net/ as it's free and seems to work. The gui is a bit ugly/complicated imho, but ok for me as I don't need to perform this task regulary

MP3 DirectCut is what I use. It has the 'waveform' display so you can trim the bad little bits out.
