View Full Version : Why the delayed main page update?

From the middle of last month until yesterday, nothing seemed to have happened on the main page, http://www.doom9.org
The last available news was from May 16th. I have a shortcut to this page that I click almost daily, to check out the news, but when almost a month passes without updates I was close to giving up on this page... :-(

Then, today, a bunch of news appear, with almost daily updates since May 16th up til today!

It is not the first time the updates are delayed like this, but I think it is the longest delay ever...

When I ping www.doom9.org, this is what I get:

Pinging server1.doom9.org [208.113.231.44] with 32 bytes of data: etc.

I'm located in Sweden, if that has anything to do with it?

Can someone explain why this happens, and if there is a way for me to fix it at my end?

Thanks!

/Håkan

he probably forgot to push the updates when he was doing them
the script failed and he just fixed it
or did it all at once

because nothing got updated to my mirror before this dump

Yep, was surprised by it, but it seems to have worked now, so hopefully, there'll be no probs in future.

It's my fault guys.. I've been known to forget to synch the servers, or even to upload the news in the first place.. and I've come back wondering why the front page shows old news myself when I was sure I had written something. I shall make an effort to better myself in that area.

It's been 2 months (since 6/29) without new news. Is everything alright? I hope no one has had an accident, taken ill or worse - has legal problems. ;)

Maybe the site admins are too busy with work and/or life to update the main page. When this has happened in the past, usually someone forgot to either post news in the first place or sync the servers. I guess its possible there just hasn't been any news to report ;)

Doom9 doesn't seem to have posted anything since his message above more than 2 months ago.

Hi. Still no updates.

I'll delete the bookmark, when nothing happens in 2 months. This is last update "6/29

eac3to 2.50 now uses the ArcSoft DTS decoder directly."

hmm.. something has gone wrong again on my end. When you see me visiting / posting here, it's a good sign that I'm still alive and kicking.
I'm currently moving between computers so things are a bit chaotic but I'll look into it as soon as the whole move is complete.

Should it be like that, I think doom9 would have let us know, the power of a community could be a force.

The move is complete (though I'm not happy with the partitioning.. probably going to reinstall soon) so I've resynched the distro server and am currently pushing out updates. The news should show up soon, hopefully.

@edit: all but one mirros appear to be synched.. I had to ask the admin of the remaining mirror to look into it as I cannot connect to it anymore.

Well, for me in Aus, serverx.doom9.org and last news

server1 8/10
server2 7/4
server3 no repsonse
server4 8/10
server5 8/10
server6 8/10
for me, www.doom9.org 7/4

Ughh, until this morning July 4 was the latest on the cover page. I enjoy reading it, when it gets updated.

I'd like a thread that I can subscribe to, for email notification, that reports when the main page is updated.

There are very few posts in the 'News' forum, and I appreciate the breadth of news that Doom9 gathers, and about the updates to software that is hosted here.

As long as you see me posting in this forum, yes everything is okay. I've had a very stressful last few months so I only shoot off news in fire and forget mode.. and the forget part tends to backfire.
The news should be current again now - but there'll be a gap as written in the news as I'm 3 hours away from leaving for an extended holiday.

Thank goodness. But but but there was a "months" gap in the last news I got to see, and I checked different servers too... and yet now I see a long list appear from the last few months !

I suppose the fire and forget comment means months worth of updates didn't make it onto the main pages that I could see - not complaining, just trying to figure if I'm being censored at/near this end.

Hope you have a nice relaxing holiday.

Actually nothing more to add. I also suffered a 3 months "no news blackout", so "fire and forget" didn't work all the way.

Enjoy your holidays and may your postings arrive at my PC in a more steady way in the future :)

Ah - back at last! Now I can go back to my lazy, lurking passive ways... but hopefully never take Doom9 for granted again!
