View Full Version : A question about suspicious "Rebuilder.child.exe" file in DVD Reb

Hi,
I've just installed a new firewall (ZoneAlarm Pro) and I see DVDRebuilder tries to connect to a file that is hidden and you can't see unless you uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files recommended option"in Tools Menu Folder Options.
I denied the connection once and the encoding went OK. But prior to my zonealarm installation I suppose the program has always connected to rebuilder.child.exe.
Is that file part of the program or is it anything else?
Thank you in advance.

I have never heard of that program, it is not a part of the DVD-RB package. DVD-RB runs REG-RB.EXE when it is first executed in order to download a key, but no other.
Make sure you ONLY download from the legitimate (http://www.jdobbs.com) site. You never know what hackers do when they modify code...

Smells fishy. I bet he's using a cracked version of Rebuilder.

@Talayero
If you have downloaded from a non-official source, it is now time to clean your machine thoroughly with a good virus and spyware cleanner.

You are right. You only can see that file in the dvd-rb installation folder by unchecking the "Hide protected operating system files option".
Anyway, thank you all for answering. If you really don't have that hidden file in the installation folder, it is actually something fishy.
P.S. I mean you see the file by unchecking that option and ONLY when you execute the normal "rebuilder.exe".

It got there by some other means than DVD-RB. DVD Rebuilder doesn't create "hidden" or "system" files.
I don't know where you got your install, and I won't ask... but I'd highly suggest you do a virus scan and system cleanup.

Thank you. Tomorrow I'll go to the official site to get the program.

No problem. Download it from this link (http://www.jdobbs.com/Pages/DVDRebuilder/DVD-RB_Pro_download.htm).

This got me curious - I downloaded the cracked version of DVDRB 1.27.3 (which doesn't work, by the way) and it does indeed create a hidden file named "Rebuilder.child.exe" when it's running.
If you need the Pro features then don't use these crappy cracked versions but pay JDobbs for it, he deserves it.

On this basis, I suspect this thread should be closed as per rule 6.
Talyero, Groucho2004's comments are pertinent. Please re-read the rules.
