I have been reading some about DXVA 2.0 the interesting thing is that it should hardware accelerate AVC (h.264) and VC1.

Now the question is how do you use it? basically, where to start?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DXVA is a good start.

DXVA is not something that you can simply turn on. It is a technology (software API) that a decoder can use in order to accelerate the decoding. There are currently only a few decoders that use it. It also requires a compatible graphics card.
