View Full Version : Hellsing Ultimate field blending -- what to do?

Hopefully the right section
Using megui, after encoding, having troubles with hellsing ultimate (anime), it appears to be skipping frames in the completed 2 pass encoding, which could possibly because of the deinterlacing plugin yadif right?
the playback of the encoded movie looks as if its skipping frames at the end of scene changes/camera angle changes.
These are the settings im using to encode it: Profile HQ - Slower with No fast p skip checked, and no dct decimation checked
So what am i doing wrong? wrong deinterlacing plugin?
also would it be easier for me to upload a clip of the anime where i noticed frame drop the most?

Are you absolutely sure that the source is interlaced rather than telecined?

i really dont know how to check eh
ive looked around but couldnt find much (a mans look probably)
heres a sample: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N2SY3J4C
EDIT: ok i had a look around about what teleclined anime is, it doesnt look like a telecline problem to be honest but then again im only an amateur at this stuff so far

It's classic blended fields garbage, which is a bit surprising for a DVD.
Where did you get this anime source?

Well, search around for "blended fields" and "field blending" and how to deal with it. You can't apply simple IVTC. The jerks are there in the source, which again is surprising for a commercial DVD.

would TDeint(order=1,full=false) help here?

There's a large body of experience here for unblending. But personally I am clueless in that regard because I avoid such video like the plague. So you'll have to hope that the experienced people see this thread. To help you, I am moving this to Avisynth Usage and changing the title.

Dump that stuff (your dvd source).
My team does Hellsing Ultimate, from an R2J source, it's sweet, straight and to the point, haven't noticed any problems with it.
I dunno if this would work on the 1-3, but with hellsing ultimate 04, I did "forced film" - and then checked it versus an IVTC script of the self - all the same...
Edit1:
P.S. If you're interested in the R2J source, message me and we'll work it out.
Edit2:
Needless to say, I haven't noticed any such "blendings" in the R2J source.

You could have atleast quoted the "somewhat" compromising part of the post ("P.S. If you're interested in the R2J source, message me and we'll work it out.") if you were going to accuse me of encouraging piracy/supporting it ;).
As it is, I truly don't see any indication of such a thing though.
"working it out" could mean a broad spectrum of things, from piracy to actually suggesting a site such as http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/ which sells japanese stuff... Which I have - I might add - used in the past to purchase perfectly legal dvds of anime(albeit at a high price) :).
Edit:
If you were refering to "my team does..." - well yeah, I am in a fansubbing team, see, we fansub to HEBREW... Since in Israel, well, anime isn't transmitted... It was - for ~3 years, but then it got shutdown due to being not profitable ;).
Anyway...

Yeah right, because "source" magically translates to "DVDs" over the Intarweb. Not.
If you mean DVDs, write "DVDs".

And good riddance. Fansubs are bad enough, but making a profit with them is downright criminal... :mad:Did you even read his post?
And not to change the topic, but if you say "fansubs are bad," you basically have to say "licensed anime is bad," because the entire existence of the latter depends on the former; the only exception to this is the very very small percentage of anime which gets broadcast on TV, and even then they usually figure out what to import based on the current popular fansubs. This is why nobody in their right mind sues fansubbers--without them the entire industry wouldn't even exist. Its a symbiotic relationship and both sides understand quite fully how much they benefit from each other.

Gah. Alright, transmitting anime wasn't profitable. That doesn't make fansubs any better; especially not if you can order DVDs online all over the world.

That's downright anachronistic - it might have been that way ages ago when anime was only available on laserdisc from Japan, but it's a poor excuse today with all the information (reviews, trailers, i.e. not whole damn episodes) to be found on the internet and in stores (manga etc.).
Heck, even I found plenty of UK tapes here in stores when VHS was still the norm.

Its hard for a show to become popular when nobody can watch it. The companies chose which shows to license based on--guess what--how many people are watching it.
So how do you expect people to be watching it before the show gets licensed--magic mirrors?

I used the word "source" refering to DVDs, if YOU misunderstood that, well, that's a shame, sorry for being not clear enought. HOWEVER, the very 1st instance I mention "source" it's relating to a DVD ("Dump that shit(your dvd source).") - as such I'd assume that's what people would understand reading "source" in otehr places in the post.
As for the morality or the legality of what *I* and *MY TEAM* do - well, that's unrelated to the post, I do not see how what I do is supposedly "encouraging" another person.

Well, you can learn it. Probably easier than Japanese, too. And even if you don't understand a single word you're not entitled to get it all for free because you're linguistically challenged.
But this is going widely off-topic and I really have better things to, so have fun...

And even if you don't understand a single word you're not entitled to get it all for free because you're linguistically challenged. And therein lies the crux of your argument: you're overly nationalistic and think everyone should learn your language rather than you learning theirs. In the real world, however, most people don't learn a new language in order to watch foreign cartoons.

You have to stay on topic too! I have deleted your OT stuff.
You detect field blending by separating the fields using Avisynth and then stepping through the fields in VirtualDub.
There are several filters for unblending. You can find them by searching.

Sorry about that earlier, don't know why I thought it worked >.> After having a little more time to mess around with it, I think this might do it:
tdeint(mode=1,slow=2)
Mrestore(numr=2002,denm=5005)
You could also try dup.
dup()
On most of the things I tried, the filters didn't properly de-blend, or maybe I was just using the wrong settings, such as I tried using leakkernelbob, blendbob, unblend and tdecimate but there was still what you would call "ghosting". I don't have a huge experience with blending as I have rarely encountered it.

Try looking on TDeint docs, MRestore docs, dup docs and other documentation related. Look at the variables and to what happens when you change the values.
It's about using something like avsp (what is good...) and working on it.
Just to tell: I agree with DarkT about the R2j source. My team have used it too, on Hellsing OVA, and it's fine.

your script only defines a function called cdeblend, but it NEVER calls it!
always place the function definition on top of the script or move it to an external avsi-file, which you will call in you main script via import().
then use the defined cdeblend function like any other filter in your script.
Didée
16th June 2008, 00:40
Your screenshots tell nothing. Are they before/after, or are they all results?
BTW, you didn't even use CDeblend! All you did is to perform cheap blend-deinterlacing due to the bicubicresize() ... :)
You ain't not just place the function code at some point in your script. You should Import() the script (like you do LoadPlugin() with DLLs), and then you use the imported function like you otherwise do with plugins.
LoadPlugin("D:\Desktop\DVD\Plugins\TIVTCv105\TIVTC\TIVTC.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\Desktop\DVD\Plugins\masktools-v2.0a35\mt_masktools-26.dll")
Import(".....\CDeblend.avs")
DGDecode_mpeg2source("G:\DVD Rips\Hellsing Sample\VTS_01_1.d2v",info=3)
ColorMatrix(hints=true)
#deinterlace
Bob() # fast & ugly. LeakKernelDeint, TDeint(mode=1), Yadif(mode=1) are more sophisticated
CDeblend()
crop( 2, 2, -2, -2)
BicubicResize(720,400,0,0.5) # Bicubic (Neutral)
That's a correct script, at least.
Then, CDeblend is NOT what you want to use here. What you want to apply is MRestore. Script basically is the same as posted above, just with "MRestore" in place of "CDeblend".
If you have that running, you'll note that all the "major" blendings are gone, and that the framerate dropped from 25 to 23.976.
However in this case you won't get rid of *all* blending. It seems that they used additional blending in the 8fps-animated sections. These smaller blendings can't be removed with MRestore, nor with any other pre-made script that I knew of.
Look at what MRestore gives you. Either live with that, or buy a better source. Period.

Import("D:\Desktop\DVD\Plugins\R_pack\mrestore.avs")
