Playing 1080p x264, is my system strong enough?

Now I know where to find system requirements for this kind of things, but the fact is, there are different stories all over the net, people play this and that file without problems, while someone else with a more powerful setup can only play it with lots of choppyness and such....

So...

These are the specs of my poor system:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+(@2.2GHz)
1024MB RAM
WIN XP

ffdshow
cyberlink mpeg-4 decoder
coreavc


I have a downloaded movie* on my system(Resident Evil 1 (2002)
The avarage bitrate is 9824 kbit/s.
But even when I try to play the sample that is supplied(90MB, small section of the movie, I could upload it, if it's allowed)

Media Player Classic chokes and almost hangs my system(100% CPU Load)
VLC Player Chokes(100% CPU load) but easily shut down
PowerDVD won't play the file, when I rename it to .avi, it'll only play the audio.
WMP Plays the file, but very choppy.

BSPlayer plays the file the smoothest of all(as far as 16fps is smooth...) Audio plays correct but is like 4-6 seconds off(what do you expect with 16fps...) Using CoreAVC for the video and AC3Filter for the DTS(downmixing to stereo)


I was wondering:
Isn't there any way that I could improve the playback of the movie?




*Yes, I DO buy DVD's, but the thing is, I don't have a Blu-Ray player, but I do have a nice HDTV, so buying them BD's will have to wait)

I have read the rules, and still decided to put that sentence in my post.

As you can read, I DO buy my DVD's.
I understand that this forum has a policy, but no policy calculates all different possiblities...

While there certainly exist those here who take part in such activities, the policy is that they are not to be discussed for legal reasons.

My downloads are not illegal, in my country it is ALLOWED.

But it doesn't matter, where can I delete my account, I don't want to be part of this forum anymore.

With MPC use Coreavc, disable deblocking and use Haali video renderer for rendering. Set the buffer in Haali renderer to half your video ram and frames to about same.
With these settings I'm perfectly able to watch 1080p on my P4 3.2E GHz and X800 XT video card.
