Digital audio through standard audio jack

Quick question: Are there any programs around to turn an analogue audio jack into a digital audio jack, for using my surround sound with my laptop (Samsung R700). I never get to use it much.

Failing that, I think I can use the HDMI socket for coaxial output. Can anyone confirm this?

I dont think so...

Some laptops have combo analog audio / S/PDIF jacks. You have to purchase a special adapter that connects deeper in the jack, and gives you an optical audio output. I don't know about RCA/coax though...

HDMI -> coax doesn't seem possible either...

Maybe get one of those little USB audio interfaces?
