View Full Version : DVD Player Failing?

I've had a high-end Sony DVD Player for many years and has worked very very nicely. However, starting today I am noticing brightness flicker and / or dimming while watching a dvd on my widescreen tv. Other inputs such as the digital cable, xbox, and Wii all are working just fine.
My question is, can a dvd player start to fail with such results? Or would the inputs on the back of my Panasonic tv more likely be the culprit?

Is your DVD player connected directly to your TV or thru' another device?
The symptoms you describe sound like the Macrovision protection is kicking in!

Have you tried connecting the dvd player to the tv using a different method? Depending on the connection method faulty cables could possibly cause that issue.

Hi!
If neither the suggestion made by "SeeMoreDigital" nor the one by "burfadel" solves your problem, you might try running a DVD/CD cleaning disc on your standalone player that "you've had for many years". Maxell makes one that sells for approximately $10US...

What input are you using?
It could be that the analog section of your DVD player is starting to fail. It might be time to get a new DVD player, preferably one with HDMI output!
