I hope this doesn't sound too ignorant, but is it okay to just add it to my VDubMod's stream list, before I second pass, and compress it to Lame MP3?

This AC3 is the audio from my DVD rip.

Thanks! ^^

VDubMod can mux the ac3 without change the compression.

If you want less quality and/or the ac3 is 5.1 and you want only stereo, you can use before BeLight-BeSweet, Foobar2000 or BeHappy-AviSynth to decode/downmix (5.1 -> 2.0) and recompress to mp3.

Is this to say that using VDubMod is not a very good way to convert to mp3?

Steps for convert ac3 5.1 to stereo mp3:

1) Decode ac3 5.1. Here you can select if aply DRC and Dialog Norm. or not (don't aply if you want preserve the full Dynamic Range)

2) Downmix 5.1 -> 2.0. Here you can select if want a Dolby ProLogic, DPL II or plain stereo (also if you want LFE in the mix)

3) Normalize. To prevent overflow the downmix must make the mix at low volume, then after downmix a normalize to 95% is recommended to avoid low volume.

4) Encode to mp3. Here you can select the bitrate desired (CBR) or the quality (VBR).

You can do this with BeLight or BeHappy.
Can you make this with VDubMod?
