Windows XP SP3 is that good?

I update my XP SP2 to SP3 and realize that sometime, iexplorer.exe is eating CPU for website tha has ads (mostly pop up).

Also, the worst is there's a new USELESS and ANNOYING "Diagnose Connection Problem" page show up. Sometime, it block me from entering a site and it displays (in red) the message about the diagnose connection problem. I click on it and it take a while, and at the end, the problem is not solved.

To solve that, I need to restart my PC. I'm turning back to SP2. This SP3 sucks.

Anyone realize something good in this new pack?

Internet Explorer 7, the whole package, has been updated after sp3 has come out. Sp3 DOES NOT update IE7 and only updates the IE6 components. If you are using IE6 then it would be strongly recommended you upgrade to IE7.

By the way, for legal reasons, the address bar is no longer supported in SP3. To get it back, get the old browseui.dll (v 6.0.2900.2995; 999kb 23rd Sept 2006) from system32/dllcache (or elsewhere) and copy it into system32 folder. Reboot.

Nah... Thanks. I only like to use classic stuff. Internet Explorer 7 is like Vista crap. It forces us to use a interface that we don't like... I'M still using Explorer 6 with Firefox as my guardian...

(I prefer to have the "refresh" button next to the "Next" button and not beside the address bar)

This goes the same as for the Windows Media Player 11 (I'm still using Windows Media Player 10). WMP11 is heavy and I don't like its interface either.

Anyway new product from Microsoft are all crap including the new Office XP 2007. I use it at school and it take me lot of time to seek what I need...

Windows Live Hotmail is also crap. :) Is still prefer the Classic, but those guys force us to use the new stuffs... W have no choice... :(

He's using IE and WMP! If you want to refresh you could always press F5! Either way, Microsoft will soon drop support for SP2 (if they haven't done so already), it just means you will be open to any new security threats or post sp3 resolved issues.

Yeah - I meant the address bar in the taskbar or in explorer windows. I use it a lot.

It was never shown in the explorer window by default (at least from sp2 onwards, can't remember before that)! The words 'Address Bar' was shown on the right of the explorer window, you had to disable 'lock toolbars' then drag down the 'Address Bar' tab (for which the text is part of).

I'm running SP3 (Part No: X14-60166-02) on a clean installation of WinXP Home.

After opening "My Computer". If you go to: View -> Toolbars, you can still find an option for the "Address Bar" ;)

It's not that you can't add the address bar to taskbar anymore, the functionality is still there, the only problem is, they removed the option from taskbar context menu, so it can't be added directly. A workaround for this is to create any other panel (Links for example, but any other except media player will do) in the taskbar and drag it to desktop (taskbar has to be unlocked), once you drag the panel to desktop, open it's context menu and eneble Address Bar, then you can drag the Address Bar to taskbar and close the panel you dragged on desktop.

Honestly I can't believe that this many people aren't doing this via nlite as Shinigami-Sama does. I took care of this the first time I installed SP3, which was on a disk I made with nlite and slipstreamed SP3.
