View Full Version : Encoding of cropped BD rips issue!!!
Hi,
Even i've never lived any issue in encoding of cropped TS files or HD_DVD rips, cropping of BD rips is a nightmare for me.
Seems everything normal before re-encoding on preview window before encoding but after encoding i'm already seeing the black bars.
Encoders which has been tried:
X264 with MeGui
h264 with Elecard Converter Studio.
Same result: still remaining black bars...
Any advice will be appreciated.
It's called aspect ratios. The reason you are getting black bars is because your hd rips are being scaled to your screen, which I highly doubt is fully 1920x1080. Your software player scales, and pads with black borders to keep everything in the correct aspect, otherwise things look stretched or squished, depending, which is less than optimal. You can override it, most every decent player has the option, but things will look odd, like a little squished or stretched. Circles will be ovals and so on.
Thanks a lot! (sorry for this late thank since i've been doing my homework :) )
OK, you are right; i have a HD ready LCD TV. Normally it is 720p50. But even i change the resolution to 1080 50 HDTV (25 Hz) the original video still has black bars.
The question is how to get the video as is?
Do i need a real 1080p display like W-UXGA to get those videos without black bars? Or?
What if the original video is 2.35:1 (AR) ?
Thanks in advance.
Exactly. If your video is 16:9, and your monitor is 16:9, then you should get no black bars (provided they werent in your source). However, if you source is 2.35:1 or otherwise, you will get black bars. For instance if you were to watch a 4:3 source video on your 16:9, you would see black bars on the left and right sides. But if you were to view a 2.35:1 source, you would get black bars on the top and bottom.
The fact is that most monitors aren't completely 16:9. They are often 16:10, which can piss a lot of people off. The moral of the story is that there will always be some source that will give you black bars, unless you had a monitor for every aspect ratio (which maybe you do o_0).
Now, since you say that you have a full 1080p LCD TV, you may already have the bars in the source. But you say that you cropped them. Hmm. The only thing I could think of is that your source is not 16:9, as is your monitor. It could be 2.35:1 as you say.
Anyone else have some ideas?
Sure this problematic rips must have any AR other than 16:9. (the originals as well)
The most appreciable one is 2:35:1...
How to overcome?
Using a player which has a zoom feature which you can manually adjust-step by step- may be a solution. It means we have to sacrifice some of the pixels, for sure. (overscan -for instance-)
Or TV manufacturers /or studios must figure out this issue?
