I'm getting a error that says "ffmpeg has stopped responding" while trying to backup a dvd to ipod. Its a multiple episode disc. It usually makes it through the first video fine and then I get this error. I haven't tested it on a single movie to see if the same error shows up.

After closing the error it seems to continue encoding but the same message just comes back.

Any idea what could be wrong? I'm running vista.

I'm guessing you are running Vista... I started seeing that same message -- and interestingly, it only occurs after the encode has completed. I'm checking it out to see what the deal is... but it doesn't seem to do it on my XP system, making me suspect Vista itself.

yes I'm running vista. I did a google search and came up with a few pages of people having a similar problem with vista and no solution.

thanks for checking into it.

I'm having the same issue with Vista and FFMPEG. Except my message is FFMPEG has stopped working.

I also have been getting this same error. Vista Ultimate. Encode works and errors out at the end then DVD-RB sits and waits until you confirm the Windows error dialog box. Happens 100% of the time with ffmpeg mobile encoding enabled. arghhh.

Sorry for the bump but....bump.

Any news on this? I would love to do more mobile encoding for my time on the treadmill at the gym and using my iPod Touch but it's a pain to do the encodes when ffmpeg errors out (can't do batches). I hoped 1.282 might help but no go. There's also newer versions of ffmpeg out than what's included with DVD-RB and I tried just switching them out in the encoders directory hoping the issue is fixed but they appear incompatible as the encode windows open and close almost immediately, my guess being the command line interfaces are not the same. :(

Then encode works, it just errors out at the end and then DVD-RB won't continue with the next step(s).

Thanks a bunch.

I've noticed that a lot of the versions of FFMPEG seem to be coming out without AC3 encoding support. That's probably the reason you are getting the immediate closure.

I have no idea why the original FFMPEG error is happening -- but it only happens on Vista... surprise, surprise. :( Not sure what it is, but since the encode always completes successfully, it makes you think it has something to do with how the program exits.

I’m running XP Home SP2 and am experiencing the same problem, or something very similar. Last year I tied the Mobile Output format while using v1.26.5 and had no problems whatsoever. Recently, using both vers. 1.27.3 and 1.28.2 I have experienced a freeze at the end of the encoding stage. Here are the details;

Using a commercially released DVD ripped w/ DVD Dycrypter and running v 1.28.2 everything completed and the video portion was fine, however I realized that I had neglected to select an audio stream - there was no sound. I started again choosing the ac3 audio stream (the smaller one, having assumed they were the same). All went well this time and the processes completed, however when finished I realized that the audio stream I had chosen was the Directors Comments. So I started again for a third time this time selecting the LPCM audio track. At the end of the Encoding step, as the progress indicator on the ffmpeg dialog box reached 99.9% complete everything stopped responding and I had to use Task Manager to shut down and exit out of both the ffmpeg encoder and DVD Rebuilder.

I re-ripped the original DVD with DVDFab and got the same results. I then used DVD Shrink to rebuild ‘movie only’ and only the LPCM audio track but got the same results. Within DVD Rebuilder’s “Mobile Output Options” I attempted to use both format options: 4:3 (320x180) as well as iPod Classic… H.264 (640x480), neither of which made and difference in respect to this issue. I also attemped both “Movie Only” and “Full Backup” backup modes, neither made a difference, either. Please let me know if there is any additional information I can supply.

Thanks Much.
Bob

I saw the same behavior. I have Vista SP1 + DVD-RB 1.28.2.

Besides from reporting the error, I would like to know if there is any way I can configure mobile encoding to match requirements for a Cowon A3 device. It uses H264 basic profile. It is better explained here:
http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=18637

See attached a file with the screen of the problem. I used AutoMKV that also uses ffmpeg.exe and there were no problems.

Unfortunately as I said it is an FFMPEG/Vista issue, and there isn't a lot I can do about it. I have done many, many encodes with XP and have never seen it happen. It has happened on every encode I've performed with Vista. The good part is that the encode has already been completed at the time it occurs and the output file is fine. So as long as you aren't doing multiple encodes it works fine.

I've found that if I select "Movie Only" before doing a MOBILE encode I can be assured that only one encode is completed and it is the feature.

I'm looking around to see if there is another FFMPEG version that can be used that doesn't exit with error.
