I have a DVD that I need to do a back up of, so my kids dont ruin my original. It is showing me its too big to copy, and I "think" I have gotten rid of anything unneccessary, and its still too big. HELP.

If it's too big you'll need to compress it to fit. Either transcode it the DVDShrink (http://dvdshrink.org/)way or re-encode the DVD Rebuilder (http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/) way. The alternative is to burn it onto a DVD+R DL, if your burner and your DVD player supports it.

Hiya. You say "Either transcode it the DVDShrink way or re-encode the DVD Rebuilder way." I am technologically stupid. Can you explain in simple plain english what that means?

Shrink it with DVDShrink.

Put "DVDShrink guide" into Google. There's one at Doom9 you can use.

Tried that, couldn't figure it out/find the answer, hence me asking here.

Tried that, still showed red in the status bar.

If I go to re-author instead, and ONLY select the 2 components in "main movie" section, thats small enough....would it work for playback though, without having the menus, etc?

Menus are optional for a DVD. So, yes, it'll work without menus.

Thanks! But now I get an error, lol. "Failed to read the file "D:\" Data error (cyclic redundance check) Any ideas?

Thanks, though I'm baffled as to why you are posting here if not to help people.

@tollerdog

Hi!now I get an error, lol. "Failed to read the file "D:\" Data error (cyclic redundance check) Any ideas?A CRC error indicates that there's either a problem with the physical DVD (scratched, dirty, Peanut Butter and Jelly) - or "ARccOS" copy protection, that DVD Shrink cannot resolve.

What is the Title and Region of the DVD?

First, try cleaning the DVD. If DVD Shrink still generates this error, try using the "RipIt4Me" package instead of only DVD Shrink. If that doesn't work, return the DVD to the place of purchase in exchange for a new replacement.

Thanks Setarip! Nice to see some friendly helpful people here!!!!

The title is High School Musical, and the kids destroyed the package (it got thrown out), so I do not know the region, nor how to get that info from the disc, sorry

Thats great info. If the DVD works (plays, both on my dvd player, and on my computer), then would the scratch/dirt be the issue still? (Is downloading a DVD in order to burn it more "sensitive" then just playing it on a player? Sorry for the lack of technical terms..hope you are understanding my question). Just trying to figure out if its the disc, or the copy protection. I google ripIt4Me, and found a download, but I am always hesitant of virus's. when downloading programs. Are you aware of downloads that are safer then others? Thanks for the helpful, user friendly info. Thats what I came here looking for, and now I have it. Much appreciated.

"High School Musical" is a Disney release, containing RipGuard copy protection (The second iteration, if I remember correctly), likely the source of the "CRC" error message. It can be properly ripped by "RipIt4Me" or, if you prefer a simpler approach, (also freeware) DVDFab HD Decrypter (Not to be confuesed with good ol' DVD Decrypter).

DVDFab HD Decrypter is a ripper only so, after ripping, you'd have to use DVD Shrink (or any other compression program)...

BTWThanks Setarip! Nice to see some friendly helpful people here!!!! You're quite welcome!

(Just kidding)
You are likely one of very few at this forum to "accuse" me of being friendly ;>}
