768x432 ratio files have play-back garbage in XP...???

Windows XP Pro; 32bit; SP2 or SP3; VLC or MPC viewer; file container AVI or MKV; file encoder AutoMKV or AutoGK.

Situation: Video files encoded to 768x432 resolution (a standard 16x9 format) play with a vertical column of scum on the right edge of the display. -- This is NOT part of the file (i.e., you won't see it in a screen-clip or in any examined frame in Vdub); it's as if it's an artifact that the operating-system itself is adding during play-back.

This is NOT part of the fileBefore hastening to that conclusion, you might want to try playing one of these files on a different system...
