Yes, very simple question.

I wonder which way takes less cpu power; raw blu-ray file or any compressed format with 1440x900 reduced size (which is the max resolution of my monitor).

I ask this because I am going to watch movies in the airplane, and I do not want to reduce the playback time of my computer.

The smaller you make them, both in file size and screen size, the less power they'll take to play back. What you really want is to get the CPU to drop down a power state, though, and that means really limiting the bitrate unless you use a smart CPU limiter like RMClock. If it's permanently set on lowest power state on battery, this doesn't apply. You just have to test to make sure it has enough power to play back at all. Lastly, if it's GPU decoded, it'll make very little difference in power consumption, but might gain you a few %.

Thank you for the answer.

but remember aspect ratio and cropping rules bofre downsizing the videos.

1440x900 is not 16x9 nor it is mod8.

1440x816 will be mod16 and nearly 16x9

Even compressing to xvid or another codec at the original resolution will decrease cpu load when playing back BluRay/HD, My computer has a heap of probs playing back h264 AVC's and VC-1's smoothly, yet the same video compressed at 9mb/s to xvid play's perfectly, i'm assuming but don't really know, but i think it is cos the video card lacks h264 hardware acceleration.

As you are playing back on a laptop i would even recommend dropping down to 1280x544 as your monitor is going to be a 17" wide screen i assume? at that size you will not notice the difference between 1440px or 1280px
