View Full Version : Analysing .ac3 files in .vob?

Hi!

I'm wondering what's a good way to analyse the .ac3 files from the .vob?

I currently demux my .vob with TMPGENC Xpress 4.0 which goes fine, but the .ac3 file is sometimes wrong as there are multiple streams in the .vob file and I can't select which one I want.

I then went and installed BeSweet (command line as the GUI doesn't work under Vista well, and BeLight doesn't work too well in terms of functionality for what I need) and so I now can rip to 6 seperate .wave files or a stereo .wave dependant on what I need. I know how to select the substream (0x80, etc.) but usually this is me guessing what it is. Some streams don't have 5.1 for example and are stereo. Is there an easy way (preferably without needing more software) that I can analyse the .ac3 streams in the .vob so it can tell me how many channels of sound there are in each substream?

Thanks! =)

DGIndex has an option to Demux each audio stream individually.

...and when you do, look at the demuxed file names.

VTS_01_1 T80 2_0ch 192Kbps DELAY 0ms.ac3 --> 2_0ch = 2 channels
VTS_01_1 T81 3_2ch 448Kbps DELAY 0ms.ac3 --> 3_2ch = 5.1 channels

I think mediainfo could do what you need as well.

Hello All,

This thread sounds like my situation, sort of. I would like to rip 5.1 audio from a DVD into their separate files (6 files) - I gather it's called Demux. However, I am sort of at a loss on the proper steps to take.

1. Do I work with the .VOB file?
2. I am sort of familiar with BeSweet GUI, but I don't know how to "split" or Demux the audio.
3. would it be too much to ask for a simple (if possible) step-by-step; assuming I already ripped the .VOB from the DVD already?

As always, thank you for any and all help and I appreciate your patience.
