Chain Index Error

i've used FairUse for a while now and all of a sudden when i try to rip a DVD the software craps out on me. The does window gives weird errors about being unable to read dvd block [XXX, XXX] where XXX are some numbers. Eventually, i get a windows message box that says unable to chain index or something like that. This happens with some movies immediately and others about 1/4 of the way through. Any suggestions as to what could have messed up? Is switching the DVD-ROM to another IDE bus seem like a possible solution? Or can it be something with the DVD laser? Thanks.

This is exactly what it says. FairUse is unable to read from the DVD. It can be caused by scratched or dirty DVDs, or maybe your DVD drive is on the way out.

Would cleaning the player help in anyway? i've got DVDs that can rip with total success while others dont. The ones that i cant rip, work on other peoples machine and rip all the way.

annunaki10, did you try ripping the DVD more than once? Maybe this is a dumb question, but it's not obvious that if Fair Use bombs the first time it tries to rip the DVD, you can restart it and it will sort of pick up where it left off and continue on (if possible). I've gotten through badly scratched DVD's where Fair Use would bomb the first time after many read errors, then upon restarting Fair Use and continuing the project it would finish reading the DVD successfully. There were no noticeable errors in the final output.
