Audio delayed after encode - what gives?

One DVD I have problem with. After I encode it, audio is out of sync with video, about 300ms (more or less, BSP only let's me "fix" it in 100ms intervals). Why is that? Original, surprisingly, plays no problem.

I had this problem with Lost (really amazing TV series btw.), I have the impression more and more DVD's are nasty compiled/protected in order to make the ripping harder. Maybe I should try new software like AnyDVD.

Ive been recently encoding my DVD collection to H264/AVC and noticed the problem more than a few times.

One solution i found was to simply rip the entire DVD first, then tell Nero Recode to "Recode Main Movie To DVD" and use the trim button to move until the first frame of the movie begins (not a black screen). As nero recode will be using 100% quality you get no loss as its untouched (and the process is very quick, less than a minute for me), then i dropped the VOB files into stax and told it to convert......no more out of sync issues (ive done 300+ DVD's since).

What I use is DVD Shrink to rip the DVD, then it's just MeGUI. All others work well...

It's Aliens, but the region number I have no idea what you mean.

Similar problem here with x264 / mkv.
Audio sync ok until about 60% of the movie, then 300 .... 500ms audio delay until the end. No problem when playing back the individual ripped VOBs though.

How is that supposed to make any difference though? DVDShrink default with changing everything to region-free anyway.

How is that supposed to make any difference though?It's useful to know as part of the initial determination of the possible protection scheme employed. There are many instances of studios using different protection schemes on different Region versions of the same DVD Title.

It does not appear that the R2 version of "Aliens" contains any newer or "special" copy protection...

I got no idea. But when I tried to simply "backup" the DVD instead of "reauthor", I got a popup speaking about something called RCE, if I remember correctly.

Trying again with leaving the audio as it is after ripping. It's VTS_01_1 T80 3_2ch 448Kbps DELAY -15ms.ac3.

I don't understand what that is about at all.
This is the ONLY DVD that's causing this. I got no idea where the problem might be - the audio is ripped directly off the DVD and it's untouched.

Interesting thing is when I rip the movie via DVD Shrink, the output has no image and the sound is... weird. Like if it was skipping every few frames.
Maybe there is some protection?
On the other hand, when I run it through MeGUI, it is all cool except for the delayed audio.

I've had this problem with a new DVD too. It has that new protection that DVD Decrypter can't rip, so I used AnyDVD. But there's an audio delay I can't track down.

Try opening the VOB in DGIndex and skipping the first few frames (not actually frames?) before demuxing:

1. Open DGIndex. It's usually in C:\Program Files\megui\tools\dgindex\DGIndex.exe

2. Click File -> Open and open your VOB file(s). Next you'll see a dialog that allows you to add more VOBs and sort them accordingly. Make sure they are in order. I personally rip DVDs as one VOB to make this easier.

3. At the bottom right corner of DGIndex there are [ < > ] buttons. Click the > button about 6 times to advance it a bit, then click the [ button to set this as the starting point for demuxing/indexing.

4. Check the Audio menu to ensure your desired audio will be demuxed, or just set Audio -> Output Method to "Demux All Tracks" if you're unsure.

5. Click File -> Save Project. This will start the audio demuxing and indexing. The end result is the same as if you used meGUI's D2V Creator.

I've had to do this for a few movies to fix the audio sync, including Narnia.

Ripped the DVD with Fab and now DGindex crashes with "Too many pictures per GOP (>=500)"

Allright. The audio is perfectly synced when I play the movie from the original files. Even when I run it through DVDShrink to copy just the movie.
I even ripped the whole DVD with AnyDVD just to make sure - and then separated stuff I wanted with either of those already mentioned. It just plays ok.
The problem starts when the audio track is extracted from the source. The same -15ms delay file was just created, which is obviously wrong. I give up. Bleh!

No, but it is the same file that gives problems. I took the effort and stayed up a bit longer for quick 30mins encode and of course it's out of sync in the same way.
