Books on Audio/Video Compression

Hi, as the title says I'm interested in what books are out there for non-math majors (I understand any book on the topic will have math, and that I won't understand some of it).

Somewhere I found a recommendation for Digital Video Compression by Peter Symes. I'm slowly reading it, and enjoying it as a introduction to all things video.

Are there any other books as nicely written for laypeople on audio topics?

The Videolan wiki has a link toa good one on video compression (http://wiki.videolan.org/SoC_x264#Skills_needed). I don't have any about audio though.

Apart from R/D theory (which you don't need to understand RDO) there isn't that much math in compression. There are some tricky algorithms, viterbi search and arithmetic coding for instance, but that's not because of the math involved. An undergraduate understanding of linear algebra is enough. If you are going to spend big bucks on a hardcover I wouldn't be scared away by the math ... the books which don't have much of it probably aren't very good books to begin with, you can skip over the math but you can't pencil it in.
