Audio mode explanation needed

Can anyone please explain to me the difference between the audio modes available in LAME/BeSweet?

i.e. Stereo, Joint Stereo, Forced Joint Stereo, Auto.

stereo is ..stereo ;) L and R channels are seperate.
joint stereo encodes in similarly to mono+difference in channels.

auto detect if there is too much difference between channels it will encode in regular stereo, otherwise joint-stereo.
