Quality software that'll convert WMVs to AVIs or MPGs?

Is there a piece of software out there that will convert WMVs to AVIs or MPGs that's of a recommended quality?

I know there's tons of software out there that will convert WMVs but I suspect most of them are of dubious quality.

Is there anything out there as good as say VirtualDub for example that'll convert WMVs to AVIs or MPGs?

I would suggest AviDemux or AutoMKV for WMV -> AVI conversion. Of course, there are many other great programs for this task (e.g. MeGUI), but AviDemux and AutoMKV are amongst the simplest solutions IMO.

in addition you should have ffdshow codec with wmv enabled in the vfw decoder settings
