Sorry if this is in the wrong section or if this is a a commonly asked question, but I did search and didn't find anything.

I'm kinda new to the whole HD/Blu Ray scene, but not so much to ripping/encoding, etc. I did a search, but I couldn't find anything specifically answering this question.

I'm trying to copy some of my HD DVDs over to my PS3 for ease of access and storage (my HD DVD player is an external windows player).

I've got as far as ripping the decoded .evo on to the HDD, and I can demux the .h264 video and the Eac3 audio, but I don't know where to go from there.

I ideally, I would like to:

Avoid re-encoding/transcoding (loss of quality)
Keep the 5.1 sound (and make it playable on PS3)
Keep the seeking feature (I believe some file formats don't support seeking on PS3)

The file size isn't very important to me, as if this works, I can always upgrade the HDD in the PS3; I'm more concerned about preserving the quality.

I would be really grateful if anyone could advise me on the best way to do this, or failing that, how to get the closest to ideal I possibly can.

All help is gratefully appreciated -- thanks in advance!

I don't know if the PS3 can play eac3, so you might have to transcode that, but otherwise you can just mux them into a mkv and then use mkv2vob to create a vob that the PS3 will play.

i'm not overly sure on the steps required for ps3 but i have seen some post's abotu people using tsremux, look into that as a starting point

just looked at mkv2vob and it looks like eactly what you want, tho it looks like you will need to transcode the eac3 track to a ac3 track, eac3to is the go for that, and don't worry too much about loss of quality, i have encoded many br/hd for playback on my xbox 360 @ 9mbps xvid with 640kbps ac3 and you cannot distinguish between the rip's and the original

:thanks:

Thanks both of you for your very quick responses. I have tried to transcode the audio before using EAC3to, but I always get the same error.

Can you recommend anything else to transcode this audio, or could you shead any light on this problem?

Much appreciated.

not sure what the problem is, everyone of my ac3 transcodes has gone perfectly, maybe try with anydvd and use eac3to directly from the disc not from a pre ripped file, i have written a guide which covers using eac3to to rip tracks from a disc if it helps (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=137128)
