Coloured bars on side of divx movie?

i have encoded my rip of 'Traffic' R2 twice - once using gordian knot (with divx 4.12), the other using flaskmpeg (with divx 4.11) and both times using 2-pass encoding. with both programs, the output files often show narrow coloured bars on the right hand side - in scenes where the colour of the picture is mostly yellow/brown, the bars tend to be green, and on the washed out blue-tinted scenese the bars tend to be a pink colour. the aspect ratio is 100% perfect. i am using windows 2000 and the processor is a 1.4 ghz amd thunderbird if that is of any use.

I have the same problem when I use TV out although it's fine on the monitor. I must use my TV out too much.

I become the same problem when I use the setting "full processing mode" in VirtualDub.
Using "Fast recompress" prevents this bar on the right.

Explanation:
I think, DivX4 has this bug only with RGB input/output.
Using fast recompress makes the video in YUY2 mode all the way, and then there isn't any colour bar!

NB: be sure that YUV is ticked in DVD2AVI

Actually this shoudn't be the problem. DivX4 works fine in RGB, that's why you can frameserver with vfapi. Also while checking YUV in DVD2AVI is technically correct, it doesn't actually alter the output of the project file at all (diff the files to see).
