Are USB external DVD burners better than Firewire?

Why can't I find any new external DVD burners that have Firewire connections? Is USB that much better? It can't be as fast, can it?

Firewire is much less common than USB, and in general is not available on most motherboards. USB 2.0 can transfer up to 60 MB/s (480Mbps), which is slower than an internal hard drive but should be quite sufficient for external burners (as long as you don't have a hard drive plugged in to the same hub, especially if thats the source of the burning).
