View Full Version : Getting undersized output with CCE (3.89GB)

I know that there are alot of undersized threads out there, but I couldn't quite find one that solved my problem...so I apologize for another undersized post.

First of all, I am using DVD Rebuilder Pro 1.26.6 and CCE SP 2.70. Pretty much all my settings are standard, I do not have bitrate distribution enabled, using Full Backup Mode. I am using anywhere from 3-5 passes, depending on how much it needs compressed.

All the DVDs that I have encoded with DVD Rebuilder have come up with the corect output size (4.35GB). However, this one movie I am encoding came out at 3.89GB, I was using 5 passes. So I ran it again and came up with 3.89GB. I can't figure out what is wrong.

Here is what I do:
- Use DVD Remake to remove all extras, trailers, edit menus, etc..
- Run it through DVD Rebuilder, using Prepare, Encode, Rebuild (not using 1-click mode)

Thats it, and I do the same thing every time and have never had it come out undersized. After I export with DVD Remake, before encoding the size is 6.10GB.

I will include my rebuilder.ini and rebuilder log:

1) Why 1.26.6? Why not 1.27.3?

2) Maybe you should perform your pre-processing in a different program than DVD Remake Pro. I suggest PgcEdit.

1) Didn't realize there was a newer version, 1.26.6 is just what ive been using. I will get the update.

2) I will try it out, but ive done a bunch of DVDs in Remake Pro and then Rebuilder and have never gotten an undersized output until now.

Any chance you changed the audio configuration (removed a track) after you'd already run the PREPARE phase? That's a certain way to cause an undersize. I noticed you are running in 3-Click mode.

Another possibility would be encoder saturation on certain segments. This often happens when producing a "movie-only" encode. I have to say, though, that the fact that you are encoding at 67.7% reduction makes that less likely. Interesting that you could remove all extras and trailers but still have to reduce that much, though.

What happens when you don't preprocess?

I don't believe that i changed any audio configuration after the prepare phase. I usually remove all audio tracks except English DD5.1 in DVD Remake, so theres nothing else to get rid of. The movie is right around 2 hours long, and after editing the menu, the menu took up only about 25 MB, and the video alone was a little over 6 GB. When I clicked the "Preview/Edit" tab and adjusted the sliders a little, I believe the estimated bitrate was around 4400 or so.

When you say don't preprocess, should I just load the original VIDEO_TS folder into Rebuilder and run the encode?

actually i was slightly off on the numbers/bitrate, but here is an image of the preview/edit window before encoding:

Since the output was continously coming in about .45GB short, I just set my output for 4.8G and it came out pretty close (about 4.30GB). Im not sure what the problem is/was, but this works good enough for me this time. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

i also got 400mb or more undersized issue when using same combination as thread author scoob19 `DVD Rebuilder Pro 1.26.6 and CCE SP 2.70`

main + movie + extra on Disc R2J EVA movie 1.01 (my dvd already gone thru other free authoring program "dvdecryptor, pgcdemux, muxman, voblanker, pgcedit) to blank and added subtitle)

undersize test
in 1 click mode or 3 click mode
most of the settings are quite default, already tried 1pass, 2pass, bitrate redistr/or not, encode menu or not, no steal nothing help,

the only changes that make output nearer to 4478mb/4.37GB is guessing the oversized target after a few tries.
-----------------------------

i also tried 1.27.3... but rebuilder auto close the moment started encode status

------------------------------
just incase program author like to know
alot earlier before above tries rebuilder couldn't start `runtime error` in windows default program encoding = JIS
so have to switch to US english to run normaly

1.27.3
weirdly got a double slash path in output folder
------------------------------
well reason for me using rebuilder is because i don't know how to get cce output m2v
