No trouble to get around it, but Doom9 is now blocked at my school. I'm sure I'm the only one who goes here...

The best part?

"Category: Dubious/Unsavory"

:p

Almost as good as places like Sourceforge and the AviSynth wiki being blocked for "Freeware". Damn you, evil freeware. :rolleyes:

A while ago an article on wired said the Doom9 forums are a hang out for file sharers.
And the BBC labeled the site as a forum for hackers.

So yes, it's full of unsavory characters here. :rolleyes:

Over the years, the term "hacker" has been assigned so many new definitions by various media that it has completely lost all meaning.

Yeah, ridiculous, but then again, even safe communitary sites such as GaiaOnline and MySpace are blocked as well, so a tech forum being locked out from students' sight isn really an issue. Not that students would be expected to browse Doom9 during school hours (or even in the campus)
Well, one could always change school, I suppose XD

In an unrelated matter, vB 3.7.0 looks cool :D

Actually, I agree with schools blocking Myspace. Far too much time is wasted by pupils devoting their lives to lost causes. There's a security issue there with it being a potential target for paedophiles. Same with Facebook. But Doom9? That's almost as preposterous as my university blocking Haali's site because it comes under the term "Hacking".

I have a problem with websites being blocked by level of schooling over highschool, outside of the usual malware of course, but those don't usually serve an educational purpose, and if the student is that savvy as to be able to use that malware they're smart enough to get around the blocks...
it just reminds me of nazi book burning...

Likewise. In any institution where you are supposed to be encouraging creative thinking and wise decision making, it seems strange to through the "you can't spend your time in this way" card

All that just for browsing Doom9 and HydrogenAudio ? Hardly worth the trouble. Browse from cellphones, PDAs and the convenience of your home instead.

or just tunnel to your home PC and browse
besides you can usually get them to take down the block if you present a good case, or make the right threats about the media

I've never been caught, as I disable monitoring software, etc... but that's off topic... and it's more the principle of it to me.

But anyways, if the teachers were that strict, we would have lost more than half the school by now xD

I don't have any teachers that give a crap. As long as their class' work is done.

@Atak_Snajpera: Don't worry, I got it covered :) Their blocking isn't done through a manual proxy, and anonymous proxies to get around it like that tend to be way too slow... I use the app Your-Freedom mostly, I will either use TorrentFreedom if I sign up or I will use a proxy through my own PC once it's fully working. Some sites I just have tricks to get into them. YouTube is blocked, but the web address for the MP4 download is not. One or two websites I can get to by using the IP address of the server.

Ultimately, they shouldn't - but if you're using the school's system, they get to set the rules; but they can. And, the reality is that there's always more that can be learned (of course, there's a lot that can be learned from your peers at Doom9)...
