The Xbox 360 now has DivX playback, which is great, but the question I have is just how far that certification goes. There's an option for "subtitles" when I'm playing a DivX AVI or .divx file, but I can't seem to get subtitles to work. I know text files don't function, but what about the XSUB format that DivX devices are supposed to be capable of? Anyone have any luck getting subs to work?

Hi MukiEX.
Just to clarify, the Xbox360 is NOT DivX Certified. The PS3 is, but the 360 is not.

@MukiEX
Hi!
The following information appeared in the blog of the "XBox Team" at http://blogs.msdn.com/xboxteam/
**15. What types of AVI files are supported?
The Xbox 360 supports files encoded using MPEG-4 Part 2, Simple and Advanced Simple Profile. These files are often referred to as Xvid or DivX® video files. Many common PC DVD authoring tools, cameras, and camcorders are capable of encoding files using MPEG-4. Note that some files authored for DivX devices may also contain additional functionality(menus, subtitles, multiple audio tracks, etc). The Xbox 360 will attempt to play these files, but does not support any of the additional functionality and in some cases will be unable to play the file.

Yup the Xbox 360 has it's own seperate MPEG-4 ASP decoder, it's compatible with XviD/DivX but just for video only. The only way to gets subs is to burn them into the video/container.
The subtitles function in the players UI only works on DVD's and possibly WMV videos with subtitles (you could give encode360 (http://dcunningham.net/projects/encode360/) a try I hear it supports subs).
