I encoded Trigun, but they put all four episodes together on one DVD, so now I have an AVI file with all four episodes together. How can I split them up? This seems like an easy question, but I have searched the boards and can't find an answer. Thank you.

Actually, I just found an answer to my question on the After Dawn forums. I do have one additional question, though: The author of the article mentions that it's important to hold down the Shift key when selecting the range, so as to stay on keyframes. What do they mean by this? Why is it important to stop and start on a keyframe? Thank you.

You can only "cut in" on a keyframe unless you're re-encoding the video.

True, but if you use VirtualDub (one of the last versions), you can check Video -> Smart rendering and only the frames between keyframes will be re-encoded. From the help file:
".. the video codec must be configured to match the source. "
You can cut on non-keyframes this way with a minimal quality loss.

Wow, I did not know you could do that. Great tip!
I don't think that would be necessary in this case though. I'm sure there's plenty of key frames between the episodes (or at least there should be) where the avi could be cut, without cutting into actual footage. Just use virtualdub to find a key frame between episodes, and cut it there. Very easy to do with vdub.
