Iīve a really annoying problem that ive been facing for some time
Iīm not exactly a "noob" at ripping, iīve knew more than the basics of DVD rip and video editing for some years, I know about the basics of process of deinterlacing, decrypting, creating AVS scrips, doing non-linear editing on programs such as PREMIERE and encondig with good quality with both XVID and x264... etc...
However i havenīt ripped many dvds, even so, all that i did, i didnīt get any problem with deinterlacing, and later on getting my own language subtitle for it without the need of retiming...
However, recently iīve bought a japanese DVD, (for those who want to know, is the new Evangelion Rebuild Movie. The dvd version is for the 1.01 version) and decrypted it to my hd to make a rip for myself.
And when i was testing subtitles that i had striped from a donwloaded rip from the internet, i noticed that the subs where gradually getting late for my already encoded rip of my own dvd.
The internet rip i got, had some of the initial companies logos cuted out, but even if i added the 32 seconds time of it on itīs subtiltes, even with the firsts dialogs syncronized, in the longtime of the movie, they got gradually dessincronized.
Then, i noticed, that even with the 32 seconds less in the DVD rip from the internet, that rip would still got only 1h, 38m and 12 seconds.
And when i ripped my decrypted dvd, the final movie i got was 1h, 38min, 18 seconds...
than i tought: Well, maybe was some bug or mistake from the ripper of the internet version.
Than i realized and had a shock. When i played my dvd from the VLC player, wmp or other dvd player, the total time the movie had, WAS 1h 38m and 12s.
However, the full vobs alone, and the DGINDEX analysis said that the movie has 1h 38min and 18 seconds.
I then realized that the 6 second less time display was due to the IFO file of the DVD.
Was it a bad file just from the IFO? Then why is there a rip on the internet with the exactly 6 second less?
The big question is: Is it possible to some delay occur while idexing/combining the splited vobs in a rip? Then why didnt i noticed any glitches in the audio when watching my rip?
If so, how can i compensate for it?
Im currently donwloading another rip just for check if excepcionally the first one i donwloaded was the bugged one from start, but i have a feeling that iīm just doing something wrong on my own...
Thanks for the attention, and please excuse english errors, iīm not a native english-speaker.
Also, i tried a look for something similar and reread some tutorials of VOB managing for ripping DVD. SInce i already knew the process, i searched for any process that could explain this problem that i wasnīt aware of. But again i Couldnīt find anything relevant.
Also, i already knew that the IFO file shows diferent time from the actual rip on other dvds, but this was the frist time i got this kind of problem, The other rips i made for myself, all the diferent sources subtitles worked fine.
EDIT: I finished downloadig a random rip of the same video i OWN. just for check itīs timing, and it was just like mine, 1:38:18s... maybe the first guy who timed the subs i downloaded, actually did time a bad rip... but im still not sure.
