View Full Version : Can only capture half of RTMP:// stream?

So I want to download an RTMP:// streaming video, and in the past I've been able to without any problem.

I've tried this movie with FLV recorder, Replay media catcher, and Orbit downloader. Orbit works, but no matter what settings I try... I only can download up to a certain point in a streaming movie and no further. The later versions of RMC also get the same result. To be specific I get about 300 MB of the movie, and I think it's stopping at the halfway point or so. It doesn't stop on the exact same frame or time every time, sometimes I get 316 megs, sometimes 321, once 340... but the full thing should be like 600.

If I watch the movie as intended, within the embedded flash player on the website, it works fine and I can watch to the end.

So what's going on here, and can it be fixed? This is the first streaming movie that seems to have beaten all the direct capture software options.

PS:
If possible, I'd like to download this directly instead of using some kind of screen capture software. I have gotten movies from the same site before (I'd link if it would help, except you need a registration so the link would do you no good anyway).

If this is a copyrighted content, you are violating the rule 6.
If not, you are welcome to clarify.

=_= it's not copyrighted, they specifically say you can copy it.

At the bottom of the page:
"Information presented on this website is considered public information and may be distributed or copied."

As I said... the only reason I wasn't linking you is because you'd have to register to be able to view the problem video.

If it helps you to view a video that doesn't require registration:

It seems that hey lamely have it set up so that it only will work on internet explorer, and I don't think the video will be of any use anyway, it's short and captures fine.

:) I know doom-9 has some pros who know a thing or two about streaming. Any volunteers?

It prolly doesn't matter but I'm not so much interested in grabbing the video for saving to my drive or redistribution... it's the technical details I'm trying to figure out... what's this stream doing that makes it viewable through the flash player, but causing it to stop abruptly when going through various stream saving programs? Is there something that lets you specify a different starting point with rtmp streams? Is this url for example not the most direct link to the movie?
