View Full Version : Replaceing the audio of a Video
Hi,
It's a long time since I used VirualDub or Nandud, so this is a bit of a low level question.
Last night I took a Video on a small DV cam of a gig. The sound quality of the mic is rubbish but the artist also had the gig recorded on a CD at the venue. I wanted to know it it were possible to extract a segment of audio from the CD and replace the audio in the DV file, and if VirtualDub would be the program best suited to do this?
Many thanks
Swin
Ok, the first problem I hav is that my DV is a MOV file, and VirtualDub doesn't recognise that. I will have a look on the forums to see if there is a way of converting this.

Yamb/MP4Box can extract the DV from the MOV container.
Are you positive this is DV video?
VirtualDub can do what you want, getting the sync might be a little tricky.

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly. I took the video on a digital camera - so does that not impy that it is digital video? If not, what is it? The MOV is the result, taken directly from the camera card.

Hi!the first problem I hav is that my DV is a MOV file, and VirtualDub doesn't recognise that.Actually, I believe that if you check out the following link, you'll discover that the more recent versions of VirtualDub can be used together with the "QT Filter" (scroll down toward the bottom of the linked page) to accept .MOV files as input...

I'll look at this. I had downloaded VirtualDub from the Doom9 downloads section - maybe it would be better to provide links to the developers websites.
Well, the filter works - kind of. The video i drastically slowed down compared to the audio (I would say at least half speed. Virtual dub detect the frame rate correct at 30 fps, but it doesn't seem to be able to play it properly.
I wonder if there are some commercial editors out there which I can use for a trial period.

I've had no such problem.
1) What video codec and settings did you use for the conversion in VirtualDub?
2) What version number of VirtualDub did you use?
3) Did you try playing the completed converted video with a software player (Not VirtualDub)?
STarting with the last first.
3) QuickTime is the deafult player for MOV file and this has no problem in VLC
2) 1.7.8 - the latest stable, but also tried the 1.8
1) Hmm, not sure here - I guess the codc that was installed with QT. The pframe rate for the video was auto detected by VirualDub at 30 fps (correct). The plugin used was that which you indicated.
Ah, the default Mode setting in the Quicktime.ini is "1" which in the readme is says RAW mode but that it is not yet implemented! I changed this to "0" (Quicktime API MoviesTask) and all works OK
