View Full Version : Quicktime doesn't play DV MOVs but iTunes does

Hi all:

Has anyone else encountered a problem where Quicktime doesn't play .mov files encoded with Apple's DV codec, but iTunes does? I'm using iTunes 7.5 and Quicktime 7.1.6 under Windows XP SP2, and when opening a DV-encoded .mov, the sound plays, but the screen just remains black. If I import the movie into iTunes, though, it plays fine.

The most likely cause of this is that iTunes 7.5 comes with a newer version of Quicktime (7.4, I think), but I had to downgrade it by hand because the version of Avid I'm using only supports QT 7.1.6 (and I need iTunes 7.5 because it's the earliest version my iPod supports; ah, the problems of coordinating so many toys...). So far I haven't had any problems, either with iTunes or with Quicktime... until now. So... has anyone found this problem, and is there a solution other than uninstalling/downgrading/upgrading either iTunes or Quicktime?
