Ok, so I have some videos (h264, Vorbis, MKV) that I need to transcode (to XviD, MP3, AVI). I've tried using MediaCoder, but when finished it has sync issues and the subtitles don't show up. I tried using a program called AlltoAVI, and the subtitles work, but for some reason it makes you first go from MKV to AVI, then from within that AVI, from h264 to XviD, which is kinda weird (and the GUI is horrible as well).

I'm new to this encoding stuff, but I just want something that can encode stuff to XviD/MP3/AVI with the subtitles intact and with no sync problems.

If you have ass/ssa embedded in mkv, MediaCoder cannot handle it because mencoder in its package is not compiled with libass.

Well, ok, subtitles are now a non-problem, but I still have sync problems. For some reason, the test video I am using is 8:04 in length before transcoding, but is 7:16 after?

@bmnot

Hi!

Did you create your test video from one continuous file, or does it contain two joined pieces - and perhaps the second piece is not recognized when you do your conversion?

Nope, it's one file only. What's weird is I encoded another MKV that's also h264 (AAC audio instead of Vorbis though) that's about 3 hours long and that had no problems.
