This works for me on windows xp, but I do not understand why this works.
When I play an avi file or dvd file in MPC, I get the typical "washed
out" and "Black levels look grey" problem. But I have found a solution that fixes this problem across all players without individual adjustments to those players.
I found that if I play a dvd from the hard drive in PowerDVD build 3516, the grey washed out symptoms will go away for any video viewing program I use there after. The color correction will last until I reboot the machine. I have no idea why this works, but it does.
It does not work in the Powerdvd build that allows Bluray from hard disk play. And playing any other media then dvd in PowerDVD will not get rid of the faulty color range.
I use a Nvidia 8800gts 320mb card with no registry tweak for the color range. I haven't done this because the powerdvd method works for me.
I could not duplicate the results on my laptop, because I have an ATI in there, and the color range issues are different for that card.
So if anyone knows why this works or can confirm these results on there machine, I would be happy to hear about it.
